I was held captive in my own home. I knew that they would execute me at first light tomorrow. They needed a sacrifice and I was chosen. I knew I had to escape no matter what and that my friends on the outside would help me.

The plan was set. I would escape tonight under the dark cover of nightfall. I rushed to pack an overnight bag. Just 1 extra set of clothes for if I make it pass tomorrow, my life would be guaranteed. I threw my bag pack on and waited, not even daring to breathe. I pressed my ear to the door and when I was sure that the hallway was silent, I sneaked out to the back door. I raced down the steps and dashed into the alleyway. I saw a small group of hooded individuals. They were huddled together and appear to be whispering amongst each other. I ran as fast as I could towards them.
“Now!” a fierce whisper sliced the thickness of the silent air.
A hand grabbed my wrist and pulled me forward. I was dragged to a neighbouring house but before we could run in, we heard fierce footsteps behind us. My protector pulled me behind the stairs and muffled my screams with a hand over my mouth. I held my breath in fear they could hear even the tiniest sound from me. When they left, my protector told me to sit on the steps and wait for her to return. As I sat on the stairs (why out in the open when I’m being chased, I have no idea) the rain started to pour. I pulled my hood over my head and hugged my knees tightly. Where do I go from here?
