The Budding Dream

Dreams are the exciting motion pictures that play behind your closed eyelids. Probably one of the most engaging movies there are, they seem to involve every single one of your senses and even those that you did not know you possess. Some said that dreams speak of your heart wishes, a manifestation of your deepest desires. Others say that it is an abstract reflection of your life; what happens in the day takes root in your mind and grows to plague you at night. Dreams are also said to birth goals and inspiration in people. Perhaps that is why we use the term “dreams” rather synonymously with “aim in life”. The technicalities of dreams are even more profound. Studies try to reveal why and how we dream, what we dream and even when we dream. Books and movies have written on it so much that we dread to see the clichéd ending-it was all but a dream. The phrase has brought me much disappointment and relief at the same time as I dream so often in my sleep. I often dream what is called “lucid dreams” where my consciousness stays awake and thus I am able to control the events in my dreams. Needless to say, I have experienced countless wonders and joy through my crafting of miracles in a world that I controlled. However, on the occasion that I lose my control, things tend to spin out of hand and I fall from my ‘dream cloud’ into a realm of nightmares. Recollecting the dreams that jolt me awake, I decided to record them down while still in shock, hoping to capture those heart-racing, heavy breathing moments.

Memories tend to lay the setting, foundation and even details in my dreams. They are so intricately woven into the story that I sometimes wonder if I had created some of my past memories through dreaming. Well, strange as some may be, there lies the mystery of what truths hide in the fog of my dreams and what deception grows within. Doubt, critique and speculate as you wish, but be warned, the only truth you shall see, is the truth you wish to see.
