Childhood Dreams
I was never one of those that knew what I wanted to be when I grow up. I had friends that would say I will be a teacher, a doctor or a policeman but I never harbored such thoughts. For me, life was much simpler. I enjoyed being a kid and dreaming about a life in the books I read. What if I could fly? What if I was a princess! I knew that such things were impossible but still, I loved to dream while I read. My absolute favorite story was Cinderella. My first encounter with the story was not from the Disney movie but in an old fairytale book. From then, I was obsessed to read and watch every single version of Cinderella. Needless to say, Disney’s rendition of the story left a magical feeling in me as the art, movement and songs captivated the young me.
This is one of my favorite songs. Perhaps I felt that it was very relatable or that it was amazing to have animals help you with your daily chores. (:
Now that I’m older, the magic has yet to fade. Unlike popular opinions, Cinderella did not feed the idea of marrying out of my current situation to me but instead it just very simply and purely gave me the dreams of dancing in a castle and meeting my one true love. By the way, the further you dig and read about the origins of this tale, the more gruesome it gets. Nonetheless, the story still speaks to my heart and is a powerful reminder of what it means to dream.
