I seldom watch the commercials on YouTube. Honestly I just stare at the 5 seconds countdown until I get to click skip and watch the video I want to. Yet, these commercials from SKII caught my eye and I watched till the very last second. The commercials were filmed in the format of a counselling session. The first type shows you the difference in answers and the way the answers are given by children and adults. The second type is a “fake” counselling session where the children were the ones that directed the adults back onto the path of dreaming. They showed many differences in dreams between children and adults.
Having a dream
Having the courage to dream
Having the certainty that your dream will turn into reality
The types of dreams
What happened during the process of growing up? Didn’t we as children wished to be adults so that we had the power to fulfil our dreams? Then how did we manage to lose them along the way?
In the children we see so much joy and hope in life. They dare to picture a future full of happiness and wonder. There is no such thing as a dream too big or too many when it comes to a child. They are forthcoming with their wishes and are full of drive and passion.
The adults by comparison, became more conservative. They are painfully aware of the judgmental stares from society. They are so restrained by Society’s views and laws that they drop their dreams in order to blend into the background. Practicality is yet another dream killer. Of course one needs to be practical in order to survive but we get so caught up in it that we no longer think it practical to hold a dream. We fuss about the nitty-gritty details of life; from the work we do to the chores at home, every single day. In fact, we spend every waking hour slogging away that we forget the reason we work so hard for. It is quite easy to keep yourself alive actually. Humans need no more than basic shelter, food, air and water to live. What we work hard for are the things that will bring utility in our lives. We want to derive happiness on top of survival needs. Hence in other words, we dream of reaching a stage of bliss in our lives but to get there, we have to work hard, but in working hard to reach our dreams, we leave our dreams behind. What lies in the meaning of life then?
