Hook, Line and Sinker

We were sailing on a beautiful white yacht, cutting through the still glass-like sea. All 13 of us were lounging on the deck with a fishing pole in our hands. The company was pleasant and the view beyond compare but I was still feeling very restless. There was not a single fish! Boredom hung over us like a gloomy grey cloud in the sunny sky and annoyance was starting to show on my face. I decided to take things into my own hands. It was time for some fun!

I jumped into the water, marvelling at the feel of the cold water against my skin. Then, a cheeky thought popped into my head. I gently tugged on one of the fishing lines and swam to the side of the boat to watch my prank unveil. “John” felt the tug and exclaimed in excitement. He stood up and reeled in his line as fast as he could. I guess he was so excited he didn’t notice the lack of resistance. At the end of the line the look of disappointment on his face was so clear that I couldn’t stay laughing for long. Determined, I dived back into the deep waters. I scooped up a silver fish that swam by my course and hooked it onto “John’s” line. Once more, I returned to my hiding spot. He was very wary of the tug this time and cautiously peered over the side of the boat as he reeled in his catch. The delight on his face struck deep inside me and I set about to hook a fish on everyone’s line.

After the very last member reeled in her fish, they were all puzzled over how each member got a fish in turn. Then they realised, I was not on the boat! Laughing I swam to the surface and did a spin in the water. They looked at me, shocked and speechless before my best friend “Jolie” jumped into the water after me. The rest of the day was spent idyllic in the sea.
